As the breeding season draws to a close a few eggs are still counting down. But as of Tuesday night they have started to show signs.

The last of the python eggs are now hatching with little faces appearing on numerous eggs.  Like many zoos, the Canberra Reptile Sanctuary breeds various species in order to ensure that there is a viable population of animals for the zoo system.

 Gone are the days where animals are removed from the wild. Zoos the world over have excellent understanding of breeding requirements of species and maintain captive bred populations. We have even seen difficult species bred in captivity now such as cheetahs, and rhinos.
